(40 Years after) - Il-Qaws - 01 FEB 2009

. . .

A good turnout, Oswald & Ruth, Peter & Simone, Patrick & Josette, Frank, Paul, Gaston & Ralph, Manuel, Andre & Bella.

The 40th Anniversary Hike turned out to be a truly memorable event.

The walk took off in a circuit manner, from SATU building at Mtahleb, and proceeded to Migra Ferha along the south west facing cliffs towards Mtahleb. At Qaws we stopped to enjoy nature at its best, a veritable display ... as described later on.

The above badge was designed and incorporated on caps worn on this occasion

The group ready to take off.

All smiles... little did they know about the gruelling hill climb that we had to tackle later on.

Ssshhh ! The Boy Scouts Association don't know we indulged in beer drinking and cigar smoking on this activity, good job none of the Boys & Girls were under 40.. except Gaston's son Ralph, who closed one eye... ( not both )

Manuel planning to have a sneak binge of Cisk, and a havana

Rain run-off water streaming down wied l -Ilma into the Qaws cliff-drop. It drops off this point which is usually a spectacular fall over the opening of an underlying cavern in the cliff face... but this day the wind Lbic (almost SW) caused an up-draught up the cliff face, preventing the water from falling down, but instead, sending it spouting upwards in a geyzer-like display.

More photos by both Patrick as well as Peter and Ralph Agius Fernandez are available.

The very short story of the Badge of Friendship.. Just a little gimmick
