Gozo Hike January 2010

Scouts with spouses and friends taking-off from Mgarr towards ix-Xatt l-Ahmar. It turned out a glorious day.

From left to right: Gaston, Frank, Ruth, Oswald, Patrick, Josette, Andre, Joe, Joanna, Anna & Isabelle

Climbing up the side of the Tafal-Cliffs approaching Mellieha Point at Xatt L-Ahmar. An arduous ascent, but a gloriously scenic point.

Joanna is stressing a point there, I was standing on a flimsy piece of clay taking this photo, and she was warning me it wasn't going to hold.

Luckily it held...

Oswald can be seen giving a hand at a particularly high step.

Paul & Marisa, and their daughter and her boyfriend joined us at Xatt l-Ahmar, almost in a perfectly timed rendevouz, after having missed the ferry, but boy they made it too.

Frank can be seen measuring the wind factor which, by the looks of Patrick, were acknowledged as of the correct magnitude.

The friendly fox terrier thought he fitted rather well within the group, and immediately occupied a very central position. I think Ruth must have been feeding him.

A fiendish grin, Frank looks like he conquered the first leg of the hike.. in fact he just did...

He was the first to get to Point X, and that was after me, coz i had to be there before him to photograph him.

At the steps of Torri Mgarr ix-Xini. Recently restored by DLH and the Xewkija council. It is sometimes open to the public, which is denoted by its flying flag.

A few minutes later Gaston had to take off to make a family appointment in time, he was given a spare map and a few verbal instructions to get him up the valley and out into the nearest village all the way down to Mgarr. He just made it !!!
