Patrick's personal memorablia... more being added from time to time.
This is one of the popular (Berec) camp torch lights in those days. I think they worked on a 9 volt flat battery power supply. I remember Patrick using this Patrick's compass, handed to him by his grand father.

Patrick's Camping List. Organised according to the rucksack's pockets and sections

This is Patrick's Campaign flag

It followed him around all the camps he had been to. He tattooed their respective dates on to the flag

Patrick's Competition Prize

This was the prize awarded for a competition in Feb 1969. I believe the organiser was Frank and that should be his handwriting on the inner leaf. As I remember it was a close run thing between me and you as to who won.

Patrick's Little Story About this Souvenir

In the early seventies ..... Not sure when exactly ... We had camped at
Verdala with Unit 206, an American group from Libya. This was the souvenir
they presented us with. It is camel hide with the names of the scouts that
attended burnt in. The badges were stuck on. The lighter rectangle is the
place where there was an american flag badge. These badges are embroidered on cloth, (like the early Scout badges) and are very pretty. The American flag was still there up to about 6 weeks ago. It's been "lost" in a very good cause.

Josette had a girl at her school who would not speak to anyone. This girl liked all things American and Josette started making friends with her over a period of time by printing out American flags. I remembered this badge and

Josette gave it to her. She then started whispering to Josette. She's now speaking to everyone again. I'm pretty sure the badge had something to do with it.

Just think .... Something given to us in the 70's, stored in my room for the better part of 38 years and then helping out young girl!!

They say there is a reason for everything. Now I know why I was hanging on to this memento .....

Later on I'll photograph their scarf and scan photos taken at the camp. I'll also check my diary and find the date of this activity.

Left - Sheath Knife.

Joe bought this hunting knife for me from Sicily. Amazing what could go through customs and what our parents let us play with!
